Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do we get started?
It all starts with a conversation so we can learn more about the type of project you seek, i.e. research, family tree building, and/or narrative-writing. After learning this, we ask our clients to provide us with copies of any relevant documentation they may have on the family, so that we can be as efficient and thorough with our research. At this point, we share a plan with the client—including project costs, expectations, and deliverables—and, once we get the go-ahead, we start on the work.
What are the costs involved?
Like every family, each project is different. The pricing depends on the type of project, the number of hours of research and writing necessary, as well as the difficulty of the research. We charge for our services on an hourly basis, with most projects typically requiring an initial 10-15 hours. We are happy to provide a more detailed quote after a complimentary consultation.
How long does the research and writing work take?
Less exhaustive projects, like The Biography, The Family Tree, or The Wedding Family Tree, can take as little as a week or two. Other more intensive research and writing projects can last somewhere between 1-2 months. And, book-length projects often take 6 months from start to finish.
I’m very interested in your work, but would like to learn more. Can we just have a chat?
Of course! We are based in Brooklyn, New York and are happy to meet by phone, virtually, or in-person to discuss your interest in family history. There is no obligation and our initial consultation is always free.
